Why does Metrocentre offer the Open Ended Type of Vasectomy?
At Metrocentre, the Open-Ended technique is used for several reasons. Dr Lekich has trained extensively under Dr Bruce Errey who has pioneered and performed 30,000 open-ended vasectomies.
Men continue to produce 20 million sperm per day even after a vasectomy. The open ended technique is aimed at reducing the inflammatory pain (sudden increase in sperm build up) in the epididymis associated with the blockage of the testicular vas as may occur in conventional vasectomies. Leaving the testicular end of the vas open allows sperm to continue to move out of the vas and into the surrounding tissues, avoiding the inevitable immediate clogging and inflammation associated with sealing of the vas tubes.
The Open Ended Vasectomy can:
- Help reduce possible complications
- Disturb as little as possible the normal function of the male reproductive organs
- Maximize the likelihood of a successful reversal
- Not interrupt the lymphatics, nerves, veins and muscles surrounding the vas as the vas is the only structure that is cut.
- Open ended DOES NOT MEAN a higher failure rate as the two ends are separated and placed in different scrotal planes/compartments to prevent the two ends joining back together.
