Dr. Lekich personally performs a scrotal ultrasound before every vasectomy reversal procedure. This is done using the highest resolution ultrasound available giving the clearest pictures possible. This exploration of the scrotum is done before the microsurgical reversal allowing Dr. Lekich to plan the procedure and to predict surgical success. The images are viewed in real time and discussed with each patient and his partner. A second ultrasound (with a sterile probe) is used in the operating theatre to assist with exceptionally challenging cases.
There is no standard vasectomy and as a result there is no standard vasectomy reversal surgical approach. For this reason Dr Lekich uses ultrasound assistance to plan and optimize his surgical success by assessing the scrotum, vas tissue and the potential for flow of sperm or sperm debris from the testicular vas (or epididymis) (Refer to "Sperm Flow" video) . During surgery, once flow is found then a meticulous suturing technique (Owen Three Layer) is used for the anastomosis/join.
Ultrasound is a painless examination that takes approximately 15-20 minutes and is done on site as part of the consultation process. The ultrasound is not an X-ray, does not use radiation and is very safe. |
