We are one of the very few clinics in the world to use this closure technique, pioneered, perfected and successfully micro - surgically performed since 1971 by Prof Owen.
Professor Owen now assists his successor Dr. Lekich in his dedicated and specifically designed facility in Brisbane. This proven technique has been used in almost 6000 reversal procedures drawing on 40 years of microsurgical research and experience to optimise and reach the highest success rates.
We have successfully reversed vasectomies performed anywhere from 1 up to 34 years ago. The Owen Three Layer closure has yielded high success rates as follows;
- 0-5 yrs since vasectomy – 80-90%
- 6-10 yrs – 70 - 80%
- 11-15 yrs – 65- 75%
- 16-20 yrs – 50- 65%
The success of our micro – surgical vasectomy reversal procedures is dependant on several factors:
- The interval between the original vasectomy and the reversal can affect results. In general, the closer the time between the vasectomy and the reversal, the better the result.
- The technique used for the original vasectomy.
- The Microsurgical precision, experience, equipment and skill of an expert team. A high number of cases to maintain these skills is essential.
